If you have an interest in severe weather, perhaps you would be interested in joining the Ontario Storm Prediction Centre's storm spotter network called CANWARN. Training sessions are always offered each spring and they are free to attend. It is a great way to meet other storm or ham radio enthusiasts. You don't need to own a ham radio license to become a storm spotter! Storm spotting is different than storm chasing in that you stay in your current location to observe the ongoing storm conditions, provided it is safe to do so. As of 2014, there are over 5000 registered storm spotters in Ontario. Check out Environment Canada's CANWARN website for more information.
